It is a deciduous shrub or tree, 6 to 8 metres high, with long, flexible branches that tend towards weeping, difficult to break, with dark reddish-brown bark, the youngest ones are rather shiny and hairless.

DISTRIBUTION:

It prefers dry, hot climates and is widespread in the western Mediterranean area, southern France, the Iberian Peninsula, reaching as far north as England and as far south as the Sahara.

INTERESTING FACT: Due to their flexibility, its branches were used to make ropes for waterwheels and binding.
