The Dwarf Palm resembles a shrub and has fan shaped leaves and long leaf stalks covered in protruding spikes. The flowers are small and yellow and the non-edible fruit is fleshy, oval and reddish-yellow in colour.
DISTRIBUTION: The Dwarf Palm originates from the Mediterranean.
INTERESTING FACTS: The Dwarf Palm is used as an anti-diarrhoeal due to its nourishing, astringent properties. The central shoots (heart of palm) are edible and the leaf fibres are used to make rush matting.
