Selwo Marina is a new kind of park, with activities aimed at getting closer to and learning to respect wildlife and with three key objectives: discovering, learning and having fun.
All the species in Selwo Marina receive the highest standards of care to ensure their maximum wellbeing and always under the rigorous supervision of qualified staff made up of veterinarians, biologists and keepers.
Selwo Marina's animals live in controlled environments that are strategically designed to guarantee their maximum wellbeing. A team of expert veterinarians, biologists and keepers take care of the park's wildlife. The work carried out by the Selwo Marina Wildlife Team includes feeding management, with personalised, well-balanced diets for each species, observation and monitoring of the animals and the special care that the team devotes to reproduction, which involves monitoring the gestation period and then the baby animals.
Through the Parques Reunidos Foundation, Selwo Marina participates in various projects whose aims are the conservation and protection of wildlife, with a special section focused on endangered species and those at risk of extinction, protection of the environment, biodiversity and improving social awareness of the problems faced by the natural environment. The park is a member of prestigious international associations like EAZA and AIZA, in addition to following the strategies of WAZA on conservation and animal welfare.
Maintaining the environmental balance is a priority for Selwo Marina and it is committed to the protection of endangered plant and animal species.
One of the main objectives of the Parques Reunidos Foundation is seeking toprovide the information, education and understanding needed to raise awareness of the complex problems facing the planet and its natural environments.
To this end, it is essential that we become aware of the great importance of sustainable development in line with the conservation of biodiversity, which will encourage reflection on our coexistence with nature and the environment.
The Foundation's aims also include the protection of childrenand upholding the democratic principles of fostering tolerance and values education, and the promotion of volunteering and social action.
The Asociación Ibérica de Zoos y Acuarios (AIZA) is a non-profit entity that brings together the main zoos and aquariums in Spain and Portugal.
In its beginnings it was established as Asociación Española de Zoos y Acuarios (AEZA). Over the years it grew gradually and from 1998 the number of associates began to increase more rapidly until it reached forty. Part of this growth must be attributed to the entry in the year 2000 of the Portuguese zoos and aquariums, a fact that led to the change of name from the then AEZA to the current AIZA.
The European Association of Zoos and Aquaria promotes cooperation for wildlife conservation, in particular of internationally coordinated programs of breeders of wild animals, such as the European Endangered Species Programs (EEP). Promotes environmental education.
Selwo Marina follows the strategies of WAZA (World Association of Zoos and Aquariums) on animal conservation and welfare, whose members are leading zoos, aquaria, associations, affiliated organisations and corporate partners from all over the world.
The goal of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums is to guide, encourage and support zoos, aquaria and related associations in animal care and welfare, environmental education and global conservation.
Selwo Marina participates in various captive breeding programmes for endangered species (EEPs). An important project that contributes to the conservation and reproduction of our Planet's endangered species.
